This grassroots program serves as a platform to identify, train, and groom high-potential athletes aged between 12 and 21.
Purpose of the BAKAT Program
The BAKAT initiative is designed to:
- Develop a structured program tailored to the needs and objectives of fencing sports development within the Federal Territory.
- Align with the Malaysian fencing calendar, including national championships, junior competitions, SUKMA Games, and open tournaments.
- Strategically organize development phases, from grassroots to elite-level preparation for SUKMA.
- Establish competitive teams through the BAKAT Program to progress towards the SUKMA Games.
- Proactively foster more skilled and competitive fencing athletes in Malaysia.
Development Pathways
The program’s developmental framework is categorized into three key levels:
1. Talent Development (Ages 12-17)
- Open to athletes with basic fencing skills who have yet to represent their state.
- Minimum 10 hours of monthly training.
- Participation in selected local competitions under the program’s guidance.
2. SUKMA Preparation (Ages 17-21)
- A preparatory phase for athletes to join SUKMA 2026.
- Inclusion in local and international tournaments to enhance competitiveness.
3. Elite Level
- Ongoing performance management to maintain elite standards.
